This week, Globalpesca’s risk prevention officer, Pablo Águila, organized two workshops on CPR maneuvers and the use of a defibrillator (AED) for cases of accidents where a person is suspected to be experiencing cardiac arrest (unresponsive, not breathing, and without a pulse).

On Monday, ten members of the Globalpesca III team participated in a CPR and AED use workshop in the passenger lounge of the EPA. The workshop was led by IST nurse Romina Saavedra, and it also addressed inquiries regarding first aid for other types of accidents such as burns, cuts, and muscle strains.

To conclude the week, twelve individuals from the Globalpesca I and Globalpesca II ships gathered at the Globalpesca offices to undergo the same workshop, this time led by SAMU nurse Andrés Campos.

It is worth noting that for effective CPR, compressions should be continuous and uninterrupted, as every minute without CPR reduces survivability. Additionally, the placement of AED pads is crucial and should not interrupt compressions.

Ideally, compressions should be performed to the beat of “La Macarena” or “Stayin’ Alive,” as they should be administered at a rate of 100 to 120 per minute, and two breaths should be given after every 30 compressions.
